Managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), the preserves encompass over 2.9 million acres of submerged lands and protect vital coastal and freshwater ecosystems including seagrass meadows, oyster and hard-bottom habitats, mangrove forests, salt marshes and coral reefs.

The Tampa Bay Aquatic Preserve Program (TBAP), a regional office of the FDEP, manages the four APs in our backyard. Tampa Bay’s aquatic preserves are proof that diverse ecosystems exist within urban areas and we have a responsibility to conserve and protect them.
